Technicians working for garage door opener repair services have seen just about everything there is where garage door openers are concerned. If you have installed your own garage door opener, do not be too surprised if you have to call a repair technician later on to fix something that does not seem right. A lot of things can go wrong unless you absolutely know what you are doing. The following examples are just a few things that can go wrong and how the technicians would repair the garage door opener in these situations.

The Door Moves Opposite of the Control Button

You press "up" and the door goes down. You press "down" and the door goes up. In this case, you installed the wiring that signals the opener what to do backwards or upside down. The wiring is crossed, so to speak, and the technician has to disconnect the electrical wiring and reconnect it in the correct way. This requires turning the power off to the garage completely, removing the wires that run from the control button to the opener, and then flipping the wiring around to reconnect it the right way before turning the power back on to the garage.

The Chain Seems to Be Stuck

A lot of garage door openers utilize a sort of bike chain system. If that is the type of opener you have and the chain seems to be getting stuck, the problem is probably inside the opener. The device has to be opened up, the chain has to have every link checked to make sure the links are not kinked or separating as they roll through the opener, and you need to make sure that the links and rotating gears are properly greased. If the chain is kinked inside the opener, that is often where the chain seems to be getting stuck. The chain may need to be replaced if it cannot be unkinked and move freely.

The Light Does Not Go On

A lot of homeowners are drawn to a garage door opener that does double duty. In this case, the double duty is an opener that not only opens the garage door but also acts as the light in the ceiling of the garage. If your garage door opener's light does not go on when the door is tripped to open, check the light bulb first. Then, call a company like Edelen Door to check the electrical wiring.
